Coastal Scenes & Ocean Impressions

Paintings inspired by the Pacific, and personal memories of growing up in California.

"A Shady Spot”

Oil on stretched canvas, 9”x 12” (2025)

This small oil painting of an overhanging tree offers a shady retreat on the Moonstone Beach Boardwalk in Cambria, Ca. The Central Coast has always been a magical destination of mine growing up, and this piece encapsulates everything I love about exploring the boardwalk and the shear joy of experiencing the otherworldly spirit of the coast. This is the first in my “Cambria Boardwalk Series, 2025”

"Finisterra”

Oil on stretched canvas, 20”x 24” (2024)

This oil painting was inspired by a photo I took while braving the unstable ocean in a very rickety boat taxi on a trip to Cabo San Lucas, Mexico. I’ve always loved the almost surreal quality of my composition, and the seemingly imminent danger of the craggy rock in the foreground.

"A Way Forward”

Oil on stretched canvas, 14”x 14” (2025)

I’m This oil painting captures the distinct atmosphere of an early morning on the boardwalks of Cambria, California and inspired by walks along the Moonstone Beach and the Fiscalini Ranch Preserve trails. My focus in this piece was to create a tonal and expressionistic rendition of the scene, emphasizing the overall mood rather than photographic detail.” The second painting in my “Cambria Boardwalk Series, 2025”

"Untitled Cabo San Lucas Painting”

Oil on stretched canvas, 16”x 20” (2024)

This vibrant palette-knife oil painting captures the breathtaking beauty of Cabo San Lucas. The rugged coastline, with it’s rocky formations and crashing waves, adds a touch of drama to the scene, and the use of thick brushstrokes and textured paint creates a sense of movement and energy. While the overall composition evokes a feeling of tranquility and peace, there also lies an element of danger and mystery. I went all out on the palette knife in this piece, using it exclusively for the entire painting.

"Calle Peñasco 2”

Oil on stretched canvas, 14”x 14” (2025)

I painted this piece immediately following my very first trip to Puerto Peñasco (aka Rocky Point,) Mexico in early January of 2025. The overcast morning beach was just beyond this sandy path, and I fell in love with the ambiance and atmosphere of the trail leading to the Sea Of Cortez’ beautiful coastline.

"Fiscalini Ranch Bluffs Revisited”

Oil on stretched canvas, 16”x 20” (2025)

This oil painting of the Fiscalini Ranch Preserve Trail in Cambria, CA is an homage to the adventurer at the start of his or her journey. The path awaits, and who knows what you will find on the trail. This piece is revisiting an older painting of the same scene, as I was very interested on how I would approach it two years after the original was done. I have many great memories of hiking these placid trails overlooking the Central California coastline.

"June Gloom On The Boardwalk - Revisited”

Oil on stretched canvas, 11”x 14” (2025)

This oil painting celebrates the quintessential "June Gloom" days of the beautiful coastal town of Cambria, California. I hoped to capture the crisp, humid air and the ethereal atmosphere that makes this stretch of California coastline so unique. This is the third painting in my “Cambria Boardwalk Series, 2025,” and it is also revisiting an older version I made in 2022.

"Back To Town”

Oil on stretched canvas, 9”x 12” (2023)

This smaller painting is an older one of mine, and one of my very first attempts at learning atmospheric perspective. I still hadn’t worked out what color palette I wanted to use yet, and this piece is all over the place with warm tones and subdued blues. I still like it’s charm and the nostalgic feeling of traversing the Moonstone Beach Boardwalk in the summertime on my annual vacation.

"Moonstone Hollow”

Oil on stretched canvas, 12”x 12” (2022)

This oil painting is an earlier work of mine, and it was my very first Cambria inspired piece. My reference photo was one I took many years ago on an annual trip to the central coast. I always loved the play between light and shadow, and the Moonstone Beach boardwalk constantly sets the stage for inspiration. Despite a few rudimentary flaws, I really feel I captured the essence of the scene. This painting was sold to a wonderful couple who also grew up visiting this sleepy little town by the sea, and I’m proud to have it on their wall!
